I am so happy to work on this project called Canadiana Comics: Files of Number None. This collaboration is a compilation of Canadian super heros (actual or fictional). I thought this would be a cool opportunity to dig into my Cree history and create a female super hero based on a Cree Story of the Thunder People.
Origin Story: Descendant of the Thunder People called Piyêsiw by the Cree people. Piyêsiw are immortals who live among the clouds and descend to earth during great thunderstorms. They control all thunder and lightening, restoring balance to the environment and mortals faith in their great power. From their lofty realm, they watch over the mortals and protect them from evil. Their common form is a great thunderbird, although may transform to a human shape if they choose to have mortal relationships. Relationships with mortals are rare as they do not like to meddle with the lives of humans, unless a mortal requires their protection.
Name: Thunder Woman
Civilian name: piyêsiw-iskwêw.
Home Base: The prairie skies.
Most Notable Deed: Champion of the Cree people’s language and culture.
Super Powers: Harnesses the power of thunder to stun enemies and stop large objects like a sonic boom. Her weapon of choice are bolts of lightening she throws like a javelin. She has the ability to shape shift into a giant Thunderbird and crush enemies with her talons and beak. Her talons and beak are as strong as steal and can pierce ship hauls and armoured vehicles. She can also carry/lift people, cars, etc. to safety.
Weaknesses: Thunder people’s life force comes from the mortals belief in their existence. When they are among those who have lost faith in their power to protect them, they become weak. Humans who lose their faith are known as “white zombies”, allied with The White Phantom.
Nemesis: The White Phantom. The Phantom is an extremely evil and destructive entity that harnesses the life force of humans by turning them into his soulless zombie horde at his military base known as the Hive. Devious weapons of mass destruction, environmental catastrophes and whatever evils The Phantom dreams up are manufactured by his white zombies.
